Terms of Use
Effective date: 01 June 2018
Last updated: January 9, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
These Terms of Use (the "Terms") govern your access to and use of the website Maritime-zone.com (the "Site") and related products and services (the "Services") operated by Maritime Zone ("Maritime Zone", "we", "us", "our").
By accessing or using the Site or Services, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Site or Services.
2. Who may use the Site
You must be at least 18 years old to use the Site or Services.
You may use the Site as a visitor, job seeker, employer, crewing agency, or other business representative (each a "User", "you", "your").
3. What Maritime Zone does (and does not do)
The Site is intended to:
- help individuals find maritime employment and access career information; and
- enable shipping companies and crewing agencies to publish vacancies and view candidate profiles and CVs.
Maritime Zone is not an employer, crewing agency, or recruitment intermediary. We do not participate in hiring decisions and do not guarantee employment outcomes.
Employers, agencies, and their representatives are solely responsible for their vacancies, advertisements, offers, and communications. Maritime Zone does not guarantee the legitimacy, accuracy, or availability of any employer, vacancy, offer, or message. You should conduct any verification you consider necessary and use your own judgment.
If you suspect fraud, please report it to us.
4. Accounts, profiles, and communications
If you create an account, you agree to:
- provide accurate information and keep it updated;
- use your real identity details where required by the Site; and
- keep your login credentials secure.
By uploading a CV, creating a profile, applying for jobs, or using messaging features, you understand that:
- your data will be processed according to our Privacy Policy;
- you may receive service messages related to your account (for example: applications, profile status, security, product updates);
- you may receive marketing or informational messages (for example: newsletters, new vacancies, features), with an unsubscribe option where required by law.
You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account, whether or not authorized by you. Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access.
5. Intellectual property
The Site, Services, and all related content (including design, text, databases, logos, trademarks, and software) are owned by Maritime Zone or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws.
You may not, without our prior written consent (except where permitted by law):
- copy, reproduce, distribute, modify, or create derivative works;
- publicly display or commercially exploit the Site or content;
- scrape, crawl, harvest, or extract data;
- bypass or interfere with access controls or security.
6. User content (including public content)
You retain ownership of content you submit to the Site (including profile information, CVs, messages, files, photos, and vacancy materials) (the "Content").
6.1 License you grant to Maritime Zone
When you submit Content, you grant Maritime Zone a royalty-free, worldwide, non-exclusive license to host, store, reproduce, process, adapt, publish, translate, and display your Content as necessary to operate, improve, and promote the Site and Services.
If you post Content to publicly accessible areas of the Site, you additionally grant Maritime Zone a perpetual, irrevocable, and fully sublicensable license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, perform, and display such public Content (in whole or in part) worldwide, in any media now known or later developed.
6.2 Your responsibility for Content
You are solely responsible for your Content and any consequences of posting or sharing it. You represent and warrant that:
- you have all rights and permissions needed to submit the Content; and
- the Content does not infringe any third-party rights (including copyright, trademark, privacy, or trade secret rights).
If you believe content on the Site infringes your rights, please contact us with sufficient details and we will review the request.
7. Acceptable use and prohibited activities
You agree to use the Site and Services in a professional and lawful manner and not to:
- post false, misleading, defamatory, abusive, or unlawful content;
- create a false identity, impersonate others, or use another person’s account;
- send spam, unsolicited offers, or mass messages in violation of anti-spam laws;
- upload malicious code (viruses, worms, trojans) or attempt to disrupt the Site;
- use bots, scrapers, automated scripts, or other automated methods to access the Services, harvest data, or send messages, unless expressly authorized by Maritime Zone in writing (including via an API agreement, documentation, or access credentials we issue);
- publish a vacancy using contact details that do not belong to the posting employer/agency (or its official representative), or route applicants to third parties;
- attempt to bypass security or access non-public areas without authorization.
We may take action against accounts or content that violate these Terms.
We may request evidence that you are authorized to use any contact details provided in a vacancy or message and may remove content or restrict accounts if such evidence is not provided.
Employers and agencies who access or download Personal Data (including CVs) from the Site must process such data in accordance with applicable data protection laws (including GDPR where applicable). You act as an independent data controller for any Personal Data you obtain from the Site and are solely responsible for having a lawful basis for processing, implementing appropriate security measures, and deleting or anonymizing such data when it is no longer necessary for recruitment purposes, unless a separate lawful basis requires or permits longer retention.
7.1. Sanctions Compliance
You represent and warrant that you are not, and are not acting on behalf of, any person or entity that is subject to applicable sanctions or otherwise prohibited from receiving the Services under applicable law. You agree not to use the Services for the benefit of any sanctioned person, entity, or vessel, or in any manner that would cause Maritime Zone to violate applicable sanctions or export control laws.
We may immediately suspend or terminate access to the Site or Services, and may refuse or block transactions, if we reasonably believe such action is necessary to comply with applicable law or the requirements of payment providers, app stores, hosting providers, or financial institutions.
8. Moderation and enforcement
We reserve the right (but do not have the obligation) to review, remove, restrict, or disable access to any Content or account if we believe it violates these Terms or applicable law, may harm the Site, users, or third parties, or is otherwise inappropriate for the Services.
We may refuse, remove, or stop any job advertisement or banner advertisement at our discretion and may suspend or terminate any Agency or Client account. Where a trial is offered, we may end it at any time without notice.
9. Fees and payments
Some Services may be paid. We may change pricing, introduce new fees, or modify paid features from time to time. Any changes will be communicated by posting updated information on the Site or by other reasonable means.
Payment processing. Payments may be processed by Maritime Zone and/or by third-party payment providers (including payment gateways, processors, banks, app stores, or merchant-of-record services) depending on the payment method, product, and your location. Where a third party processes a payment, your payment may be subject to that provider’s terms and policies, and Maritime Zone may not control certain billing, authorization, settlement, dispute, or refund workflows.
Authorization and settlement. We may use pre-authorization, verification, or other billing mechanisms. The timing of settlement and the availability of paid features may depend on confirmation from the payment provider and may not be instantaneous.
Taxes and fees. Prices may exclude or include applicable taxes (including VAT/GST) depending on your location and the payment method. You are responsible for any bank fees, currency conversion fees, or other charges imposed by your bank or payment provider.
Invoices for business customers. If we offer invoicing for legal entities, additional information may be required to issue an invoice (for example, company name, address, tax/VAT number, and authorized contact details). You are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of such information.
Chargebacks and payment disputes. We may suspend or restrict access to paid features or accounts while a chargeback, reversal, or payment dispute is pending. If a chargeback is granted, we may reclaim access to the related paid features and recover associated costs to the extent permitted by law.
Refunds. Refund eligibility and processes may vary by product and payment method and are described in our Refund Policy (where presented to you during checkout and/or made available on the Site). To the extent permitted by law, and except as expressly stated in the Refund Policy, fees are generally non-refundable. If you purchased via the Apple App Store, Google Play, or another third-party platform or merchant-of-record, refunds are handled by that provider under its terms, and Maritime Zone may not be able to process such refunds directly. For direct payments made to Maritime Zone (if available), we may issue a refund in accordance with the Refund Policy or where required by applicable law.
10. Third-party links
The Site may contain links to third-party websites. These links are provided solely as a convenience and not as an endorsement. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party sites. If you decide to access them, you do so at your own risk.
11. Privacy and legal requests
We process personal data according to our Privacy Policy. We may comply with lawful requests from courts, law enforcement, or government entities, which may require disclosure of certain information where legally required or permitted. Please note that search engines, archives, and other third parties may retain cached or stored copies of certain information. Our Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time and is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
12. Disclaimers
The Site and Services are provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE." We do not guarantee that the Site will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free, or that content will always be stored, delivered, or accessible.
We are not responsible for:
- the content of materials posted or sent by Users, employers, agencies, or other third parties;
- any damage, harm, losses, or other consequences arising from your use of (or reliance on) the Site or Services;
- any risks connected with the use of online services, including technical failures, delays, or loss of data;
- whether the Site or Services meet your expectations or specific requirements;
- communications, negotiations, hiring decisions, employment relationships, or any outcomes between you and any employer, agency, or recipient of CVs;
- the accuracy, credibility, or completeness of vacancies, job offers, employer information, or other information published on the Site.
We do not have an obligation to monitor, pre-screen, verify, or validate any user, employer, agency, or third-party content, communications, identities, credentials, licenses, or claims, and any such review (if performed) is provided solely as a convenience and does not create any warranty or liability.
13. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Maritime Zone will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data, profit, revenue, or business opportunities, arising from or related to your use of (or inability to use) the Site or Services.
If your use results in the need for servicing, repair, or correction of equipment or data, you assume any costs thereof.
In any event, to the maximum extent permitted by law (and except where prohibited by law), our total aggregate liability to you for all claims arising from or related to the Site or Services shall not exceed the greater of: (a) the total amounts paid by you for the Services in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) $100 USD.
14. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Maritime Zone and its subsidiaries, affiliates, officers, directors, employees, agents, partners, and service providers from and against any claims, demands, actions, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or relating to:
- any Content you submit, post, upload, transmit, or otherwise make available through the Site or Services;
- your use of, reliance on, or inability to use the Site or Services;
- your connection to the Site, including any activity that occurs through your account;
- any communications, negotiations, hiring decisions, employment relationships, or employment-related claims between you and any employer, agency, or other third party arising from or in connection with your use of the Services;
- your use of any third-party services, websites, or platforms linked from or integrated with the Site;
- your violation of these Terms, applicable law, or any rights of another (including intellectual property or privacy rights).
Maritime Zone reserves the right, at your expense, to assume the exclusive defense and control of any matter subject to indemnification and you agree to cooperate with our defense of such claims.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time. Changes will be effective and binding on the date they are posted on the Site, or as otherwise stated in a notice of such changes. We may provide notice by any reasonable means, including posting on the Site or sending an email or in-service message.
Your continued access to or use of the Site or Services after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the Site and Services.
Any terms, conditions, or policies proposed by you that are different from or in addition to these Terms are expressly rejected and shall have no effect unless expressly agreed by Maritime Zone in a written agreement signed by an authorized representative of Maritime Zone.
16. Termination
You may stop using the Site at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Site or Services at any time if we believe you violated these Terms or if necessary to protect the Site, users, or third parties.
Upon termination, provisions that by their nature should survive (including Intellectual property, User content, Disclaimers, Limitation of liability, Indemnification, Governing Law and Venue, and Severability) will remain in effect. Your data will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
17. Contact
To report fraud, request content removal, or ask questions about these Terms, contact Maritime Zone at [email protected] or via the contact form on the Site.
18. Governing Law and Venue
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where Maritime Zone is incorporated or has its principal place of business, without regard to conflict of law principles. To the extent permitted by applicable law, disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Services shall be brought in the courts located in that jurisdiction.
Nothing in these Terms limits any consumer rights that cannot be waived under applicable law.
19. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
20. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any policies expressly referenced on the Site, constitute the entire agreement between you and Maritime Zone regarding the Services and supersede any prior or contemporaneous agreements, communications, or understandings on the same subject.
For clarity, no purchase order, invoice, email, message, click-through terms, or other document issued by you will modify these Terms, and any such additional or conflicting terms are rejected unless expressly agreed by Maritime Zone in a written agreement signed by an authorized representative.
21. Order Terms and Priority
Certain purchases, promotions, paid features, or checkout flows may be governed by additional terms, disclosures, or policies presented to you at the time of purchase (including a Refund Policy). If there is a conflict between those purchase-specific terms and these Terms, the purchase-specific terms will apply to that purchase to the extent permitted by applicable law.
22. No Waiver
Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms is not a waiver of our right to do so later. Any waiver must be in writing and signed by an authorized representative of Maritime Zone.
23. Assignment
You may not assign or transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign or transfer these Terms (in whole or in part) without restriction, including in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization, sale of assets, or by operation of law.
24. No Partnership or Agency
Nothing in these Terms creates any partnership, joint venture, employment, franchise, or agency relationship between you and Maritime Zone. You and Maritime Zone are independent parties. Neither party has authority to bind the other or make representations on the other’s behalf.
25. Force Majeure
Maritime Zone will not be liable for any delay or failure to perform resulting from causes beyond its reasonable control, including war, acts of terrorism, civil unrest, sanctions, government actions, natural disasters, power or internet outages, failures of hosting providers, payment providers, app stores, or telecommunications networks, or other events of force majeure. Performance will be suspended for the duration of the event and will resume when reasonably possible.
26. Language
These Terms may be translated into other languages for convenience. In the event of any conflict or inconsistency between the English version and any translated version, the English version shall prevail to the extent permitted by applicable law.
